Marc Dentico-Olin, DMD, MD

Marc Dentico-Olin is a graduate of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, where he rowed on the heavyweight crew team and graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in music and a minor in saxophone performance. After a few years in the music business, he received his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Dentico-Olin also attended the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, where he earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD). He made San Diego his permanent home with his wife and 8-year-old son in 2016 and recently began coaching his son’s little league team. Read more

Dr. Dentico-Olin completed a six-year specialty training in oral and maxillofacial surgery as well as an internship in general surgery at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. Dr. Dentico-Olin is board-certified and practices within the full traditional scope of the specialty. Dr. Dentico-Olin is especially interested in the latest advances in virtual surgery, guided surgery and biomedical technologies, including stem cell therapy, guided tissue regeneration and recombinant growth factor therapy. He is well-versed in dental implant surgery and bone grafting (including immediate implant placement as well as the All-on-4® technique), wisdom tooth surgery, cranial nerve repair and grafting, corrective jaw (orthognathic) surgery, reconstruction and repair of facial bone fractures, post-traumatic facial reconstruction, repair of facial lacerations, TMJ disorders, TMJ total joint replacement, and the treatment of cysts and tumors of the mouth and facial bones.

Dr. Dentico-Olin is committed to community service and has performed surgical missions abroad as well as in the San Diego area. He is a volunteer oral surgeon at the Veteran’s Village John Geis Dental Clinic and a very active oral and maxillofacial consultant, treating trauma and emergent infections at Sharp Memorial Hospital, Scripps Mercy Hospital (where he serves as Chief of the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery), Scripps Memorial La Jolla Hospital and Rady Children’s Hospital (where he serves as vice chief of the Department of Dentistry/Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery). He is also an assistant volunteer clinical professor in the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in the UCSD system.

Lester Machado, DDS, MD

Dr. Lester Machado, above all else, feels very strongly about the level of care he provides his patients. He believes that each person is a unique individual. A California native, Dr. Machado completed schooling at University of the Pacific, School of Dentistry and at the Hahnemann University School of Medicine. He attended Louisiana State University at New Orleans receiving his Master of Science in anatomy. He also received his oral and maxillofacial surgical training there.

In 1990, Dr. Machado began his private practice in oral and maxillofacial surgery in San Diego. His office is near the Rady Children’s Hospital, where is he an active member of San Diego’s Cleft Palate and Craniofacial teams. He has a very special interest in the care of children with facial deformities. He is also fluent in Spanish and active with overseas cleft palate surgical teams.

Dr. Machado has lectured extensively throughout the U.S., Europe and Mexico on many aspects of oral and maxillofacial surgery. He has authored several papers and is currently engaged in clinical research to improve the treatment of children with facial deformities utilizing distraction osteogenesis.
